MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán) is a student organization originally founded in 1969 at the University of California, Santa Barbara with the aim of promoting Chicano consciousness and empowerment. MEChA initially emerged as a response to the lack of representation and inclusion of Chicanos in higher education, as well as the broader social and political issues affecting the Chicano community in the United States.
MEChA has grown into a nationwide organization with chapters in colleges, universities, and high schools across the country.
