Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu Wa Za Banga, commonly known as Mobutu, was the President and dictator of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) from 1965 to 1997. Born in 1930, Mobutu rose to power as a military dictator through a coup d'état and ruled the country with an iron fist for over three decades.
During his rule, Mobutu consolidated his power by suppressing political opposition, promoting ethnic nationalism, and implementing a one-party system called the Popular Movement of the Revolution.
