Nicholas Winton was a British humanitarian who played a crucial role in saving the lives of 669 children, most of them Jewish, from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia during the eve of World War II. Born on May 19, 1909, in London, Winton organized a rescue operation known as the Czech Kindertransport, which facilitated the safe passage of these children to foster families in Britain. Winton's efforts went largely unnoticed for over 50 years until his wife discovered a scrapbook containing names and photos of the rescued children.
