Our team is now on its way to the Gulf region, where they can help protect lives and stabilize the situation. We see the challenges that exist now: the Iranian regime has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz – one of the main routes for supplying oil and gas to the global market. This is a major source of instability. No one in the world can yet say how long all of this will last, but it is important that the protection of life starts working effectively as soon as possible. Stability is important for us as well. Those now seeking Ukraine’s help must continue to assist our own defense – first and foremost, our air defense. Last year we already proposed a drone agreement to the United States. This is the right way forward: to partner with us in the production and use of drones, and everyone now sees that there is no alternative to this approach. Ukraine has the greatest experience in the world in countering attack drones, and without our experience it will be very difficult for the Gulf region, the entire Middle East, and partners in Europe and America to build strong protection. -

Thank you to Japan – our great supporter and a true leader in protecting life, both in its region and globally. From the very first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Japan has stood with Ukraine and provided meaningful support to our people. It was a pleasure to speak with the Prime Minister @takaichi_sanae after her appointment. We highly value our partnership and look forward to welcoming the Prime Minister to Ukraine at a convenient time. -

We are expanding joint production of drones to defend against Russian attacks today and to defend and deter in the future. Yesterday, four framework defense agreements were signed — two between Ukraine and Finland, one between Ukraine and Denmark, and one between Ukraine and Latvia. These Build With Ukraine joint production initiatives help lay the foundation for a truly self-reliant European defense industrial base that will strengthen our shared security in the future. We encourage other partners to join these efforts by making contributions through the SAFE program to scale up joint production even more. This will not only enhance our collective security now, but also enable future exports after the war. I am grateful to everyone helping strengthen our shared security. -

I am grateful to the G7 leaders for their unequivocal support of Ukraine. A dignified and lasting peace is possible if the United States, Europe, the G7 countries, and Ukraine work together to ensure reliable security guarantees for our people and a strong, united recovery plan. Ukraine remains committed to keeping the peace process constructive. At the same time, we deeply appreciate the energy and defense support provided by your countries. Every package of air defense missiles helps preserve normal life for Ukrainians amid Russia’s brutal attacks on critical infrastructure. -

.@vonderleyen and I discussed the strategy to significantly bolster Ukraine’s resilience — the European Commission will support the repair of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, help rebuild it, and reinforce the protection of the grid ahead of next winter. This is one of the most significant outcomes of our meetings yesterday, and its importance cannot be overstated, especially given Russia’s continued attempts to destroy normal life in Ukraine. Together we can ensure reliable power supply, decentralized generation, and restoration of damaged facilities to support our people. I am grateful to the European Union for this program. Thank you, Ursula, and the European Commission team for your support. -

I thank all the leaders who are in Ukraine and with Ukraine today, and who have supported Ukrainians throughout all these years of struggle. It is extremely important that we are all together today, speaking with one voice. Global unity is stronger than any of Russia’s alliances. And as long as we all stand firm, we will surely secure peace for a normal life for our people. -

There are many dictatorships in the world. Some seal themselves off within their own borders, trying to block any outside influence of freedom. And others do not recognize borders at all and actively try to destroy the freedom of their neighbors, entire regions, and sometimes even the whole world. When we deal with Russia, we face the second type of threat. It is a mentally unstable dictatorship that cannot accept that in Europe every life matters, human rights are important, and nations can be protected whether they are big or small. Putin cannot accept one simple thing – that somewhere people can live differently and enjoy a life that is not the one he prefers. That is why he has been consistently trying to break someone – not just now, not just for 4 years, but throughout his entire time in power. He is war itself. And anyone who supports Putin cannot fail to understand that they are choosing war. From my address to the European Parliament. -

Today marks exactly four years since Putin started his three-day push to take Kyiv. And that says a great deal about our resistance, about how Ukraine has fought all this time. Behind those words stand millions of our people, immense courage, incredibly hard work, endurance, and the long path Ukraine has been pursuing since February 24. Looking back at the beginning of the invasion and reflecting on today, we have every right to say: we have defended our independence, we have not lost our statehood; Putin has not achieved his goals. He has not broken Ukrainians; he has not won this war. We have preserved Ukraine, and we will do everything to secure peace and justice. Glory to Ukraine! -

There are different views on World War III. I believe Putin has already started it. The question is: how much territory can he seize, and how to stop him? Not to prevent Russia from winning, but because Russia wants to impose its own world and change people’s lives, which they like and choose for themselves. That is why I believe, and have long believed, that Putin has already started this war. And we are preventing him from turning this into a broader, full-scale World War III. Today, we are the outpost stopping Putin. From an interview with BBC 2/3 -

I don't need historical shit to end this war and move to diplomacy. Because it's just a delay tactic. I read no less history books than Putin. And I learned a lot. I know more about his country than he knows about Ukraine. Simply because I have been to Russia – to many cities. And I knew a lot of people there. He has never been to Ukraine this many times. He was only in big cities. I went to small cities. From the northern part to the southern part. Everywhere. I know their mentality. That's why I don't want to lose time on all these things. It's about them. They decided to have such a system. The Russians decided to change themselves. The Russians decided that they needed a new Tsar. It's up to them. But there is security. There is a big war waged against us. This is our lives. The only thing that I want to speak about with him is that I think that we need to resolve it in the most successful way. I mean to end this war quickly. That is why I want to speak only about such things. -

Thank you @Markus_Soeder for the warm reception and genuine solidarity with Ukraine. It was a privilege to receive the Ewald von Kleist Award, honoring the Ukrainian people. I am grateful to Germany and Chancellor Merz for their consistent support and leadership in defending lives. We equally appreciate the warmth with which Germany, and Bavaria in particular, hosted our people and continue to help them. -

Sport shouldn’t mean amnesia, and the Olympic movement should help stop wars, not play into the hands of aggressors. Unfortunately, the decision of the International Olympic Committee to disqualify Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych says otherwise. This is certainly not about the principles of Olympism, which are founded on fairness and the support of peace. I thank our athlete for his clear stance. His helmet, bearing the portraits of fallen Ukrainian athletes, is about honour and remembrance. It is a reminder to the whole world of what Russian aggression is and the cost of fighting for independence. And in this, no rule has been broken. It is Russia that constantly violates Olympic principles, using the period of the Olympic Games to wage war. In 2008, it was the war against Georgia; in 2014 – the occupation of Crimea; in 2022 – the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. And now, in 2026, despite repeated calls for a ceasefire during the Winter Olympics, Russia shows complete disregard, increasing missile and drone strikes on our energy infrastructure and our people. 660 Ukrainian athletes and coaches have been killed by Russia since the full-scale invasion began. Hundreds of our athletes will never again be able to take part in the Olympic Games or any other international competitions. And yet, 13 Russians are currently in Italy competing at the Olympics. They compete under “neutral” flags at the Games, while in real life publicly supporting Russian aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories. And they are the ones who deserve disqualification. We are proud of Vladyslav and of what he did. Having courage is worth more than any medal. -

I held a daily coordination call. Today, reports were delivered on the situation in Kyiv and the region, Kharkiv and Poltava regions, Kropyvnytskyi and the region, Vinnytsia and Dnipro regions, Zaporizhzhia, and communities along the border with Russia and near the frontline. I consider the performance of the Air Force in some regions of Ukraine to be unsatisfactory, and together with the Commander of the Air Force and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, we discussed which decisions must be immediately implemented to more effectively intercept “shaheds.” There were reports on the restoration of the energy sector and support for people in the Kharkiv region. The situation remains difficult in Kyiv, where more than 1,200 buildings in different districts of the capital are without heating. More support is needed for residents of these buildings. I instructed that digital tools be deployed to identify and analyze the specific needs of people and communities in real time. The head of Ukrzaliznytsia reported on the consequences of Russian strikes on logistics – these attacks have not stopped for a single day, and throughout this January there has been a significant increase in Russian strikes specifically targeting the railway network. I am grateful to all railway workers for the rapid restoration efforts and for keeping the railways operating. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported on the deployment of the necessary forces for recovery efforts and on the operation of assistance points and warming centers. The Minister of Energy reported on the schedule for commissioning cogeneration facilities. The Prime Minister of Ukraine reported on the implementation of government support programs, including the "Warmth Packages" program – we will be expanding it. Thank you to everyone who is helping our people and our communities right now. Glory to Ukraine! -

Today, I had a substantive discussion with @donaldtusk. I thank Poland for its support for Ukraine – both now, as we defend ourselves against the Russian invasion, and throughout all the years since our independence was restored. I briefed him on the situation in our country – in the energy sector and in recovery. We discussed cooperation in this area, and there are things that can strengthen both of our countries. In particular, this concerns the development of our energy networks in Ukraine and in Poland. Another part of our conversation focused on joint defense programs. We count on Poland’s continued participation in the PURL initiative, which enables Ukraine to purchase American weapons. We also expect Ukraine to become a full participant in the SAFE instrument. We are preparing to co-produce drones and other weapons. We also addressed the diplomatic efforts underway to end the war. I updated Donald on the work of Ukraine’s negotiating team. A separate point was the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia. We must bring this war to a real end – with reliable security guarantees for Ukraine and for our entire region. And most importantly, Russia must receive no reward whatsoever for its aggression. -

We are communicating with our partners – with the American side – about truly effective formats and truly necessary results. Ukraine is ready for meetings, Ukraine is ready for decisions, and we expect our partners to be able to act as effectively as possible – in Europe, in the United States, everywhere. Exactly as required for a lasting peace. We don’t miss out on any opportunity to achieve peace and guarantee security. -

I spoke with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, @Keir_Starmer. I thank Keir for his words of condolence regarding Russian strikes on civilians and energy facilities. It is crucial that the UK is supporting us not only with words but also through concrete energy aid packages. We value the decisions already made and hope that our discussions on strengthening air defense will also yield results. We also discussed diplomatic efforts. The meetings in the UAE were constructive, and the dialogue will continue later this week. Ukraine wants to end this war as quickly as possible and is ready to work 24/7 to achieve a dignified peace. Russia must show the same readiness on its part – not attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure or attempts to cut people off from power and heat, but real steps toward stopping the bloodshed. -

During a conversation with Federal Chancellor of Austria @_CStocker, we discussed the energy situation in Ukraine. Russia strikes energy infrastructure every day to leave Ukrainians without electricity and heat, and it is very important that partners respond to this. That is why we highly appreciate Austria’s decision last week to allocate funds to support our energy sector. Thank you! We also discussed other ways to support our energy system. I also informed the Chancellor about the trilateral meetings of the Ukrainian, American, and Russian delegations that took place in the UAE last week. The parties primarily discussed military issues, but they also talked about security guarantees. Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is one of the key security guarantees not only for us, but also for all of Europe. After all, Europe’s collective strength is possible, in particular, thanks to Ukraine’s security, technological, and economic contributions. That is why we are speaking about a concrete date – 2027 – and we count on partners’ support for our position. I invited the Chancellor to visit Ukraine so that we can continue our dialogue in person. Thank you! -

This is a clear lesson of history: when hatred against one people is not stopped, others cannot remain indifferent or stand idly by. Aggression and disdain for human life and life of entire nations must never prevail, and such protection of life must be the responsibility not only of the brave but of all humanity. Today, the world honors the memory of the victims of the Holocaust—millions of innocent children, women, and men. Millions of Jews murdered by the Nazis. Tragically, the indifference of others contributed greatly to this catastrophe. Yet, ultimately, the world united to defeat the Nazis and achieve victory over this evil. On this very day—January 27, 1945—the last prisoners were liberated from Auschwitz, one of the most horrific Nazi concentration camps. This is exactly how the world must act now. Whenever hatred and war threaten nations, the unity that saves lives is required. Everyone in the world who truly values peace and calm must value them not only for themselves; they must make every effort to ensure that hatred never prevails again, so that anyone who spreads it knows they are destined to lose. Eternal memory to all victims of the Holocaust! -

Overnight, Russia carried out a massive attack on our regions, launching over 370 attack drones and 21 missiles of various types. Kyiv and the region, as well as the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, were targeted. In Kharkiv, a maternity hospital, a dormitory housing displaced persons, a medical college, and residential buildings have been damaged. As of now, dozens of people have been reported injured, including a child. In the capital and the surrounding region, the Russians' main targets were energy facilities. Tragically, this attack has claimed the life of one person. My condolences to their family and loved ones. All necessary services are now working at the sites of the Russian strikes, eliminating all consequences: rescuers, medical teams, municipal services, energy workers, and repair crews. I thank every person involved. I am also grateful to all the air defense personnel who repelled the attack. Every such Russian strike on our energy infrastructure proves that there must be no delays in supplying air defenses. No blind eye can be turned to these strikes; they must be met with a strong response. We are counting on the reaction and assistance of all our partners. Every missile for Patriot, NASAMS, and all other systems helps protect critical infrastructure and enables people to endure the winter cold. We must ensure full implementation of everything agreed with President Trump in Davos regarding air defense. I thank all those who help protect lives. -
