Today’s #HudsonWilliamsFF short film is “Peace of Mind”! 🎥 Link to watch: https://t.co/E2Zao9aauQ IMO: I love this one. It builds tension so well and Hudson is always so captivating to watch. The plot twist at the end?! 😭 Those final scenes are so vulnerable and I really love the switch from color to black and white. One of my favourite quotes: “Peace of mind was never about achieving your dreams or fixing your past, it’s about forgiving the ones that never happen and letting go of what you can’t change.” Share your favourite scene and your insights about it in the replies! -

Sophie Nélisse on filming Shane Hollander’s coming out scene with Hudson Williams in episode 5 of “Heated Rivalry” “I didn’t want her to outshine him. [Rose] was really in the passenger seat, and sometimes it’s in the eye contact and the energy of being like, ‘I will be here whenever you’re ready to talk and open up.’ There’s that beautiful moment when it cuts back to his flashbacks. I remember doing ADR after we’d shot the scene once the show was about to be released, and just knives straight to my heart. It’s what really gets me in that scene. Rose is not saying anything, it’s just him living his emotion and all of his duality, everything that’s tearing him apart. And the conflict, and you feel all of that. It’s silent. Even the images are silent. It’s so powerful. We really wanted the scene to be quiet and intimate.” “On the very first take, just watching Hudson’s inner monologue, you could see the battle in his eyes and it made me tear up instantly. We both were in a place of really listening to one another in the scene. It wasn’t about what I was going to say next. It was about, how can I make him feel seen and understood and cared for?” 🔗 https://t.co/lG6ehvQKJx -

I think way too many people feel comfortable on this app spreading lies, being racist, and hating on someone who has done nothing but treat everyone he meets with kindness and respect. We will not stay quiet in the face of the racism and coordinated hate train he’s been facing. It doesn’t feel random - it feels calculated. And it’s even more disturbing when it’s increased by people with platforms, including journalists who should know better and do better than just using his name for attention. There’s a clear pattern of double standards, selective outrage, and harmful, false narratives being pushed. Criticism is one thing - racism, harassment, and targeted misinformation are another. If we want change, we have to stop feeding it by interacting and start mass REPORTING tweets and accounts, not engaging with bait, and refusing to amplify hateful content cause we are in our own loving bubble. We can stand up for him without turning into the same thing we’re criticizing. (Defending Hudson should never mean becoming hateful ourselves towards other people in his life). If you want to help protect him and make this platform less welcoming to all this organized hate, follow @hudsonprotect. (We are not admins of this account, we are just sharing it!) -

“The DJ was playing bangers all night, but it wasn’t until Williams went down to the dance floor that people actually started to dance, and stayed dancing for hours and hours—an incredibly rare feat to pull off at a New York Fashion Week party, where, in my experience, you get a few lightly shimmying shoulders and nonchalant head nods at best ... Williams, as a first-time NYFW attendee and host, was everywhere at once—everyone who wanted to be near him got to be near him. First, he was beside the bar, exchanging a hug with Bowen Yang, and then he was on the other side of the dance floor, dropping it low to “My Neck, My Back,” and then conjuring a cowboy hat seemingly from thin air, playfully putting it on and taking it off the bopping heads of the circle that formed around him ... There is no word for his energy other than infectious, spreading out across all three floors of the venue, with Williams—who ditched his blazer and danced in a bicep-baring tank all night—at the center of it.” (via @ultragloss for @GQMagazine) 🔗 https://t.co/9wz3WF9OgN -

.@reactormag on how Shane Hollander is a key step forward for Gay Asian representation whilst highlighting the rising masculinity crisis “Shane Hollander is upending western pop culture stereotypes around Asian men (…) [and] reveals the limits placed upon gay Asian men when it comes to masculinity. It’s so gratifying to see a gay Asian character as a main character in one of the biggest hits of the year.” “What Reid and Tierney understand is that the experience of an ethnic minority is similar in many ways to that of being queer. There’s a constant need to code-switch, to surveil one’s environment in order to understand which aspects of one’s identity are safe or advantageous to reveal, and a guilt in either conforming or subverting stereotypes. It’s doubly exhausting when both of these identities are at play, and when the expectations and stereotypes of both identities begin to intersect and deviate.” “‘Heated Rivalry’ succeeds because it serves as a meta-narrative about queer Asian identity itself: How much should it divulge about its sexuality versus its ethnicity? How does it conform to or subvert gender tropes? And how does its proximity to whiteness inform its success?” 🔗 Read more here: https://t.co/oLHgc3vT2F -

I feel like I should share this because I know how much you all care about Hudson, and I can see how upsetting this situation has been for many of you: Hudson’s legal team is aware of the hate tweets, group chats, and accounts created with the sole intention of defaming him. They will do their work but here’s what we should do: It’s also important to say that these cowardly accounts, runned through burner profiles do not deserve your time, energy, or attention. Right now, the most important thing is for you to take care of your mental health. The smartest thing to do is not engage, only report. I’ve seen a lot of people quoting these accounts, and that’s exactly what they want: attention. Engaging will only upset you further, and it’s a battle that can’t be won. Unfortunately, some people will hate for no reason, and there’s nothing we can do to change their minds. What we can do is focus on Hudson, his work, and on ourselves - so this space stays positive and safe for everyone. If you stop engaging, this content won’t show up on your timeline, and that’s one of the best forms of self-care you can practice right now. Hudson is thriving and skyrocketing, and no amount of online hate can take that away from him if we are here to support him and his work spreading it. Mwah and PLEASE take care of yourself. -

.@TheAVClub on episode 5 of “Heated Rivalry” “It’s the episode where Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie ratchet up their already strong performances to a new level. Particularly on rewatch, you can really appreciate how Williams totally shifts Shane’s level of confidence after his girlfriend Rose Landry (Sophie Nélisse) gently but firmly ushers him out of the closet and into a new level of self-understanding. For all the beloved sequences in episode five, an underrated one involves Shane coming out as gay and pushing Ilya to admit they have something real. Tierney sets it up like a scene that’s going to serve as a moment of catharsis for Shane only to unexpectedly pivot to one of catharsis for Ilya — who’s suddenly talking about Russia and his family in a way he never has in the past nine years. One act of openness begets another. It’s the moment Ilya mentally shifts Shane from the guy he texts for a hookup to the person he calls when his father dies — an opening of the emotional floodgates he can at first only acknowledge in Russian.” 🔗 https://t.co/GD7Tsxjzej -

.@TheAVClub praise Hudson Williams’ acting, the character work, and more in new “Heated Rivalry” write-up “Indeed, [the show] is filled with the kind of poignantly written, brilliantly acted scene work that so often becomes the breakout moments of prestige fantasy dramas or superhero movies or sci-fi shows. But what’s so special about the romance genre is that it doesn’t have to smuggle its character arcs into some kind of larger plot-driven package. The character work is the story engine in a way that’s singularly rewarding, whether on a first watch or a fifth. William Faulkner once said that the only thing worth writing about is ‘the human heart in conflict with itself.’ And few shows have explored that as purely — or as carnally — as ‘Heated Rivalry’. (...) It’s a beautifully subtextual exploration of the sort of real-life communication problems that actually keep people apart rather than the plot contrivances rom-coms so often reach for.” 🔗 Read more here (and we highly recommend that you do): https://t.co/GD7Tsxk73R -

Costume designer Hanna Puley on Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov’s fashion evolution in “Heated Rivalry” “At the end of the season, when they're alone together in the cabin, they almost revert to a more younger/childlike version of themselves. There's no effort to impress each other, just to exist. Sharing clothes makes their mutual comfort evident. They're both at their most mature, finally able to share the secret they've carried for nearly a decade and to exist together without any pretense.” 🔗 Full interview: https://t.co/fQoN2eKFaA -

Hudson Williams talks about his future aspirations in acting, directing and writing (via @evanrosskatz) “I think it’s inevitable within the next 5 years I have my feature debut, which I probably will have wrote and just the egoomaniac in me is going to act in it. Because it doesn’t feel like it comes from a place of conceit at least. It feels like it comes from a place of, I have a specific tone I like when I write. Selfishly, I enjoy what I write and it feels like the only person who writes like me is me. Whether or not it’s great or will be appreciated or anyone will think it’s good, I have no control of or no prospects of even possibly understanding. But I like it and so I want to exist in the worlds I create.” 🔗 Full interview: https://t.co/nkshceYmUY -
