People don't really know like how to live this life.
So as our life becomes meaningless we start to consume more pornography because like we don't really know what we're doing so I might as well watch some porn and get some dopamine and then all kind of like you know it sort of passes the time.
We know that suicide is correlated with a sense of purposelessness in life like what I am doing with life, there's really no point in being here. I'm suffering some right now and there's no like end goal that makes suffering worth it, so why not just check out a life.
The most fundamental major change that has happened in our society is that we have externalized our attention. So every moment of our day our attention is externalized: I'm listening to a podcast, l'm on social media, I'm playing a video game, I'm watching something, even when I'm on the toilet i use the phone.
So if we really look at it fundamentally what is the change in technology or what changes technology in our brains and on society it is externalized our attention, so a hundred years ago we used to be like more attentional to our intern stimuli and what's really interesting is there some places where even technology has not figured out how to break into, so a great example for this is shower throughts.
