In her book 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do , clinical social expert, psychotherapist, and psychology instructor at Northeastern University, Amy Morin, explains that the words spoken can also be an indicator of one's intelligence and mental strength. Morin said, there are 7 sentences that are always uttered by intelligent and mentally strong people.
Mentally strong people will not immediately follow other people's advice, even if it is said by their family or from a certain self-development program. They will consider whether the advice given is to their liking.
"Other people and their opinions have no power to determine our destiny"
When faced with a good situation and opportunity, whether it's income or a more prestigious position, intelligent and mentally strong people will consider whether the 'new' situation fits their values, and not just fulfilling their ego.
Instead of being indifferent to other people's opinions and directly expressing their own, those who are intelligent and mentally strong will invite others to tell their stories so they can understand more.
But, this doesn't mean they don't have limits. They certainly would not tolerate hurtful actions. But the point that needs attention, is their willingness to listen to the conversation with respect, even if the conversation is a little painful.
“I firmly believe that it is very important to listen to and learn from others"
It would be hard to find mentally strong people complaining about how difficult things are. Well, instead of complaining and wishing life was easier, those who are mentally strong will direct their energy and efforts to make sure they are strong enough to face all these difficult challenges.
This includes their willingness to put up with the anxieties, self-doubts, and failures that might occur when doing the difficult thing.
Blaming yourself excessively is certainly a very detrimental action. When feeling remorse for their actions, people with high mental strength will focus on offering a sincere apology, and trying to correct their mistakes whenever possible.
People who have high mental strength are not easily influenced by feelings of guilt. They are also not easily swayed and are able to say "no" to things they don't want to do.
The more they say no, the more time and energy they have to focus on the things they want to do.
Mentally strong people are willing to admit that they don't have all the answers, because they know there is always room for improvement. So, when they fail or make mistakes, they admit their weaknesses and focus on how they can improve.
"Failure is something that can be learned. You have to be willing to pick yourself up and move on
